Chris Eggleston means business here at CNS, leading the pack no matter what division he chooses to race in. Tonight the Late Models made their debut and the big question on most minds was "Can Bruce "the moose" Yackey maintain his title for another year against NASCAR up-and-comer Chris Eggleston?"
Speedy's Auto Sales Late Models
Last years late model rookie of the year Ed Vecchiarelli Jr made hard contact with the turn one wall in his qualifier and had to be taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons. Another pile up crippled Bruce Yackey's #12 Late Model, nearly taking him out of the A Main. A bit of elbow grease brought Yackey's Late Model back to life and he was ready for his first race of the season - he'd start the upcoming A Main, from the rear of the field.
The 40 lap Late Model A Main started out with #66 Darren Bucklen on the pole, #27 Roger Avants had the inside of row 1, #42 Speedy Ronnie Hults had the inside of row two with #22 Chris Eggleston on his outside. You could throw a blanket over the top 5 until lap 4 when Ronnie Hults sprinted around the outside of Darren Bucklen for the lead. Behind them, Avants and Eggleston battled for 3rd. Their battle for 3rd became a battle for 2nd as the two approached Bucklen. Hults continued to pull away from the field as the race for 2nd between Avants, Bucklen and Eggleston raged on. Eggleston in 3rd, got sideways along the front stretch, collecting #11 Darren Robertson. Chris Eggleston left the track as Hults lined it up with Bucklen, electing to take the outside for the double file restart. Darren Robertson joined the fray, duking it out with Bucklen for 2nd place. While the battle raged up front, Bruce Yackey patiently made his way up the field, taking 7th from a start in dead last by lap 33. Ronnie Hults took the win with a massive lead. Bucklen took 2nd followed by Avants and Darren Crocker.

#17 Terry Plumber kicked things off on the pole with #7 Corey Seip on the outside. Behind them #16 Timothy Faatz, #66 Kyle Clegg, #22 Chris Eggleston and #03 Darrell Stewart rode double file ready to go. Kyle Clegg and Chris Eggleston broke away from the pack taking the lead by lap 3. Clegg and Eggleston hit lapped traffic at lap 4. Chris moved around the outside of Clegg going into turn 2 at lap 5. They dragged through 1 lap with Eggleston moving into the lead. The leaders skillfully navigated lapped traffic racing clean until lap 23 when a spin out in turn 2 brought on a yellow flag. Kyle Clegg and Chris Eggleston lined it up, going head to head for the last two laps. Eggleston pulled away with Clegg close behind. At the finish line it was Eggleston in 1st with Kyle Clegg taking a close 2nd, #17 Terry Plumber took 3rd. Eggleston's next NASCAR event will be in Charlotte.
